Rush's deep track about - well, whatever you want to see
I’ve been seeing a lot of Rush content the last few days ever sinceSteve Goldbergtalked about Losing It on his stack Earworms and Song Loops. Found out there’s a stack One A Day Rush. And this song came into my head. In particular, these lyrics from the tag:
Boys and girls together
Let's paint the mirror black
The mirror always lies
Not sure why it’s there. It’s off my favourite album, Presto, which I swore I wrote about but can’t find in the archive. (I may be confusing me writing about it with Jackie R. writing about the title track on Music of the Day. A future café for sure!) I’ve seen different interpretations of the lyrics but to me it sounds like a teen girl and boy preparing for the date where she wants him to commit and he wants to go all the way. But the lyrics are vague and one can also say it’s talking about how we hide our real selves.
Neil Peart wrote some deep lyrics.
Anyway, enjoy your song of the day!

Great song from a great album.
I hadn't heard this track in a hell of a long time. And hadn't really paid attention to the lyrics before. I am not sure what it means. Other than maybe when we look in the mirror we only see ourselves but there are other people to consider too? I dunno. I suppose I could look into what The Professor or Geddy had to say about it, but best left to interpretation.
I'm still amazed that the the music writers here (that I know of) who write about Rush are all women! I didn't see them on this tour (I don't think -- I was living in an area not close to giant stadiums, where they would certainly have played), but I did most of all the rest.
