I first heard this song on the 1978 Daryl Hall and John Oates album Livetime. Something about John Oates’ voice just grabbed me. It’s about someone who is away from their lover and how it makes them feel. This was back in the days when you didn’t have multiple ways of contacting people so if they didn’t answer their phone you were SOL.
In the intervening years I’ve sung this song a million times and I’m still working on how I can self-accompany myself so I can perform it. It’s my favourite Hall & Oates song, which is saying something because I loved their music so much.
Enjoy your song of the day!
I can't recall ever hearing John sing! I had most of H&O's '70s output, although I think I side-stepped this album; I rarely got live albums unless they were either by my absolute fave artists (Genesis comes immediately to mind), or there was something different or more than might've been on a studio album (like extended Genesis songs or jams, or Phil/Chester drum duets)! Good song, though! Thanks!
