Gorgeous song and fascinating story. It's incredible to learn that England and Ireland would just decide to send people to Australia and deprive them of living in their own country, in Ned Kelly's father's case for stealing two pigs!
The original transport destination was the American colonies but after the revolution, Australia became the destination. All because people were poor and desperate and the jails were full.
What a compelling song and video! I’m not familiar with The Whitlams or Freedman but I like what I heard in both renditions. I’ve made a note to check out the story of the Kelly gang.

Highly, highly recommend checking out Tim Freedman and The Whitlams. I wrote about how I got into the band here: https://mkpiatkowski.substack.com/p/the-song-that-changed-my-life
