Following along the Daryl Hall and John Oates trail, today’s song is IMO the third strongest song on the album behind Melody For a Memory and It’s a Laugh off of the Along the Red Ledge album. It may be the only album David Foster didn’t layer a level of bombast on. This was early in his career so maybe he hadn’t learned yet to ruin artists.1
This version with Eric Hutchinson popped into my feed. Daryl still can’t resist dragging out his endings, which vastly annoyed me. I had never heard of Hutchinson but he did a fine job here though and it’s nice to hear this song get a new life.
I was thrill to discover this Darryl Cotton 1979 cover, which uses the same arrangement. It was a non-album single that got to #74 on the Australian charts. Go Oz!
Enjoy your song of the day!
Yes, David Foster hatred is a standard of this stack.
