Stupid David Foster. If you listen to Celine's French recordings, which he didn't touch, she's such an affecting singer. Then Foster fell in love with her range and became obsessed with showing it off. I saw a recording of her singing this song after she lost her husband and brother and it was much more grounded.
Wow! I've never heard her version before! So original and yet very Eartha! Thanks for sharing.
I hadn't heard it before either! I love when writing these leads me to some very cool covers.
Love the original, sounds so heartfelt. Also really interesting to learn of Rachmaninoff and 12% royalties!
The Rachmaninoff royalty issue really surprised me! Always happy to share my love of the original version.
Hard to think anyone could ever best the original, such an amazing song!
Because of the Celine cover I think it's become underrated but it really needs to be celebrated.
The Celine cover has always felt overwrought and so over the top for me. Makes me appreciate the original that much more.

I didn’t realize that about David Foster. I haven’t listened to much of her French output, will have to listen to some of her earlier recordings
