Falco's first hit

Back in the 80s, Canadian radio was still independent from American radio so as a result, not only did we hear a lot of Canadian bands because of the CanCon regulations but ended up being the gateway for a lot of European bands to break into the North American market. Such is the case with Falco. This song did eventually break into the American market once it was translated into English but broke here in the original German. (Same story with Nena’s 99 Luftballons.)

I love Falco and this song has always been fun. Apparently the song has to do with using cocaine and a couple running from the cops but really, it’s all about the chorus.

I also really love how the video is just him pretending to run in front of a green screen looping a 10 second generic clip. So 80s.

Of a little more interest is the original German video, where he sings from an interrogation room.
