Bye Bye Bye
I was introduced to this song in a weird way. I missed when it hit the charts. I wasn’t really interested in NSYNC. Jump forward to a few years ago, where I’m watching Zondag Met Lubach, a Dutch comedy current affairs show I was turned onto thanks to their viral video The Netherlands Second. This was my introduction to Bye Bye Bye. So I went and checked out the original. It’s a banger, alright. It’s off an album called No Strings Attached and the visuals for this song really leaned into the puppet idea. 25 foot puppets of the band members were built by Sid and Marty Krofft for their appearance at the American Music Awards in 2000.
The video is quite iconic, with a bit of a James Bond vibe, with the various band members being chased in quite dangerous situations, a spinning room a la Fred Astaire’s iconic dance in Royal Wedding, and featuring dance moves that people have been trying to emulate ever since. What’s crazy is that they did their own stunts! Here’s how they did it:
Ok, enough buildup. Here’s your song of the day. Enjoy!
