Harry Connick Jr's funk adventure

Found out the news of Matthew Perry’s passing and I wanted to do a post in his memory. I was never a fan of Friends but I deeply admired his openness about his struggles with alcohol and his desire to help other addicts by sharing his story. (Plus, he’s Canadian!)

This song, from Harry Connick Jr’s funk attempt Star Turtle, is about a self-aware drunk who knows he has a problem but can’t quite bring himself to stop because of how good it makes him feel. That’s how Perry described his addiction and since I also really love the song, it feels like a good fit.

This song takes the traditional New Orleans sound and mixes it up with a funk groove. The result is a lot of fun. Unfortunately the album was not well received and Connick Jr hasn’t done more experiments in this vein to my knowledge. If you know more, please let me know in the comments!
