The Beaches is a Toronto-based band who are named after a famous neighbourhood. They won Group of the Year at Sunday’s Junos, only the second all-female band to do it. They’ve been around for a decade with some success but this track took them to the next level as a clip from the song went viral on TikTok. This allowed them to get dates touring in the US.
The song’s success had to do with so many women reposting, commenting on how the lyric spoke to their own feelings around a breakup. It’s based on the breakup of the lead singer from her musician boyfriend.
Here they are performing at the Junos:
And for some extra fun, follow this link to hear them do a cover of Loverboy’s Turn Me Loose. Enjoy your song of the day!
This is one of the best albums of the past year. In addition to Blame Brett, check out Everything is Boring and Shower Beer. Very catchy, great songs!
Thanks for the intro! I’d never heard of this band and don’t follow Canadian music near as much as I did in my university days in the 90s. I really enjoyed the song so I’ll give the album a listen.
