Dolly Parton's ode to the working girl
This is for all the people who are going back to work today. (Thankfully I have this week off.) Welcome to 2024!
Dolly wrote this song for the movie of the same name. During her down time on set, she would run her acrylic nails against each other to create a percussive sound which sounded like a typewriter and start putting some lyrics to it. When she got to her hotel room, she would her guitar and write it down. Over a period of time, the song came together.
The video opens with various women on their way to work, which transitions to Dolly and her band, with clips from the film interspersed. The sound quality isn’t as clear as the vid above so you can choose which to watch.
